A Quick Story

Marcus kept getting the same three story ideas over and over. He asked Grok to help him break the pattern. After a few rounds of playful prompting, he landed on a story about a retired librarian who accidentally becomes the keeper of forgotten dreams. He’s now 40,000 words into that book and says it’s the most fun he’s had writing in years.

How to Brainstorm Without Getting Generic Ideas

The secret is to give Grok constraints and personality.

Example Prompt “Respond from the perspective of a playful storyteller. Give me 7 fresh story ideas that combine [two unrelated things]. Make at least two of them feel a little weird or unexpected.”
Example Prompt “Help me turn this boring premise into something more interesting: [your premise]. Give me three different angles or twists.”

Exercise

Take one small idea you’ve had recently. Use one of the prompts above with Grok. Then pick your favorite result and ask: “Why do you think this idea has potential?”
